In the epic classic book and movie, Ben-Hur, the main character, Judah Ben-Hur, through an accident and tragic misunderstanding is arrested and sold to work in the mines by the Roman authorities. Despite going from the son of a wealthy family to slave, Ben-Hur refused to fall into despair. He exercised and built his strength up. When he was ready he inched his way up the mineshaft and made it to the top. Unfortunately, he was easily captured because he was blinded by the sunlight after spending so much time in the dark mine shaft.

His captors were so impressed with his strength that they sold him to the Roman navy as a rower for their warships. Again Ben-Hur refused to give up. He used his great strength to become the best rower on the boat. Eventually, he was given the special privilege of not being chained to the boat.

Later in a great naval battle, his boat was rammed and sunk. Because Ben-Hur was not chained, he was the only slave to escape. He was able to save the admiral who had given permission to have him unchained. The admiral was so grateful; he took him to Rome and adopted him as his son. Later when the admiral died, Ben-Hur inherited his great wealth. He eventually made his way back to Jerusalem and was reunited with his mother and sister.

What can we learn from this story? Instead of slipping into despair from the injustice done to him, Ben-Hur burned with great desire for freedom and to right the wrong done to him. He refused to give up. Despite the hopeless situation he found himself in, he spent his time preparing himself. When opportunities came he took advantage of them.

Can dream interpretation be a valid method for self-growth?

My answer is Yes. But to answer to the question of how can it be so…well… to be frank, I have no straight answers. All I can say is that the guiding hand of the intelligence of soul/higher self/Source works in mysterious ways. An understanding of our dreams is the most direct way of tapping into this cosmic intelligence. This is one of the easier method when compared to other means such as clairvoyance training and other psychic developments. The reason for this ease is because most of us dream!

Interestingly, dream interpretation can also be applied in other areas too. It can be and has been used successfully to interpret the symbols of our clairvoyant vision while in meditation. Understanding the symbology can assist one in bridging a transition onto higher and more abstract means of knowing.

There are certain skills that I feel is important for successful dream interpretation. One of which is a developed intuition. Unfortunately, this faculty is something that no dream interpretation software or tool can have. It is something that only we ourselves can nurture.

Intuition is what binds and creates recognisable connections to the seemingly unrelated dream visions and symbols.This in turn structures the connections into a cohesive and meaningful message.

Intuition is not mental reasoning. It is simply that inner knowing of feeling/sensing that is beyond logic and reasoning. Intuition is in fact a real cognitive process. Unfortunately our modern civilisation is heavily ‘mental-rationalisation driven’ and therefore is not in the capacity to validate a higher order process such as intuition. In another word, we have been placing too much emphasis on logic, proving and reasoning.

Intuition, sometimes it doesn’t tell you the outcomes of events. In my cases, it is simply an inner knowing that explains and provides answers.

If the thoughts are those of how superior one really is and is smacked with elitism and pride, then one better take a closer assessment, before getting too carried away. These thoughts might not be intuitions. If they imply things like “You will be rich and famous if you do this’ or ’she must be wrong as I am smarter’, do double check. That thought may be coming from the part of the ego/personality associated with body-mind survival.

You’ve tried everything but that “thing” you are addicted to….. and it doesn’t really matter what it is, yes I said,” it doesn’t matter what it is”!
The addiction is what you “do”, it is not the problem!
Anyway, it just won’t go away. So you start looking for external things to solve the problem. I mean things like nicotine patches, self help books, step programs or articles like this one.
Now don’t get me wrong these things can all be useful. They prepare you for the “final revelation” which will help rid you forever of your addiction.
You do deals with yourself. “If I don’t have (insert your personal addiction here) today, then I will be able to have one tomorrow” or “I am useless because I can’t control this”. “I feel so bad today I need my little helper”. Maybe, your inner voice tells you no-one
understands how hard it is, or you are just more sensitive than others, or it makes you interesting, or my friends wouldn’t like me any other way or or or….
We can run in these circles for years, swapping addiction for addiction. Blaming everyone for our problems. “I was an unloved child” “My father was an alcoholic” “I have issues with commitment”. Sound familiar? Now please, don’t get me wrong. Being the child of an alcoholic is no small thing! I am not belittling it, just as I would not dream of belittling anything that someone believed was the cause of there addiction.
But, and here is the problem. If you “believe” something external caused you to set off on the road to oblivion, then you are going to need an equally powerful external tool to make you change that path. Well, it’s not going to happen! There is nothing external to you that will alter your course. Sorry, but thats the truth.
You can justify, lie, blame others and spend a fortune on self-help guru’s, until you realise one simple truth and that is this.
The secret to stopping your addiction is to Stop. Yes Stop! and the point is you won’t until you realise the answer to your difficulty lies inside you.
Fear is stopping you contacting the part of you that can help. Whatever it is you do to allay that fear, “your addiction,” stops you hearing that clever part of you.
The trick is to recognise the fear for what it is.
Understand it is standing in the way of you hearing your inner voice.
You have been tricked into believing that the fear is as deep as you can go. The fear is shallow. Make the decision to Stop, Stick with it and move on. Once the thing you are doing “your addiction” is no longer ruling you then you have a chance to work out how you got into this mess, That’s if you feel you need to? Maybe just getting on with your life is an option too?
Remember! The answer to the question is you! The secret of stopping, is to stop!
